He&#8217;d been &#097; Bank of America credit card holder for &#102;&#105;&#118;&#101; years, and &#097; year ago &#104;&#101; &#104;&#097;&#100; &#116;&#097;&#107;&#101;&#110; advantage of 0% APR on balance transfers &#116;&#111; move over &#115;&#101;&#118;&#101;&#114;&#097;&#108; thousand dollars &#116;&#111; &#116;&#104;&#097;&#116; card.</p><p>With &#116;&#104;&#101; 12 months of 0% &#105;&#110;&#116;&#101;&#114;&#101;&#115;&#116; &#101;&#110;&#100;&#105;&#110;&#103; in June, Jason paid off &#116;&#104;&#101; balance &#098;&#101;&#102;&#111;&#114;&#101; it bounced &#117;&#112; &#116;&#111; &#097; whopping 24% APR.</p><p>With &#104;&#105;&#115; mind on &#116;&#104;&#097;&#116; 24%, Jason decided &#116;&#111; &#099;&#097;&#108;&#108; &#117;&#112; BofA &#116;&#111; see if &mdash; since &#104;&#101; &#104;&#097;&#100; &#097;&#108;&#119;&#097;&#121;&#115; paid &#104;&#105;&#115; bills and &#104;&#097;&#100; decent credit &mdash; &#104;&#101; &#099;&#111;&#117;&#108;&#100; &#103;&#101;&#116; &#116;&#104;&#101; bank &#116;&#111; drop &#116;&#104;&#097;&#116; number &#097; bit:I spoke &#116;&#111; &#097; customer rep &#116;&#104;&#097;&#116; told &#109;&#101; &#116;&#104;&#101;&#114;&#101; were no lower APR offers available so I proceeded &#116;&#111; &#097;&#115;&#107; for &#097; supervisor. I &#103;&#101;&#116; on &#116;&#104;&#101; phone with &#116;&#104;&#101; supervisor and I stated &#116;&#104;&#097;&#116; I &#104;&#097;&#100; no late or no missed payments and paid off &#116;&#104;&#101; balance. I &#116;&#104;&#101;&#110; &#097;&#115;&#107;&#101;&#100; &#116;&#104;&#101; supervisor &#105;&#115; it &#112;&#111;&#115;&#115;&#105;&#098;&#108;&#101; &#116;&#111; lower &#116;&#104;&#101; APR.</p><p>She checked &#109;&#121; credit and proceeded &#116;&#111; &#116;&#101;&#108;&#108; &#109;&#101; &#116;&#104;&#097;&#116; &#116;&#104;&#101;&#121; were closing &#109;&#121; account. Her explanation was &#116;&#104;&#097;&#116; &#116;&#104;&#101;&#121; were afraid &#116;&#104;&#097;&#116; with &#097; $8000 limit, &#116;&#104;&#101; debt on &#116;&#104;&#101; card would go &#117;&#112;.</p><p>I &#097;&#115;&#107;&#101;&#100;, &#8220;How does &#116;&#104;&#097;&#116; &#109;&#097;&#107;&#101; sense? I paid &#109;&#121; balance off, I &#112;&#108;&#097;&#110; on keeping &#116;&#104;&#101; credit card active, I have &#097; job, I &#097;&#108;&#119;&#097;&#121;&#115; pay on time, I have &#110;&#101;&#118;&#101;&#114; missed &#097; payment and you&#8217;re closing &#109;&#121; account?</p><p>&#8220;If you&#8217;re so worried &#097;&#098;&#111;&#117;&#116; &#116;&#104;&#101; $8000 &#116;&#104;&#101;&#110; lower &#109;&#121; limit &#116;&#111; $1000. She wasn&#8217;t &#097;&#108;&#111;&#110;&#101; &#8211; the site had information on hundreds of people.</p><p> Sean called several of the people on the list, &#109;&#111;&#115;&#116; of whom &#116;&#104;&#111;&#117;&#103;&#104;&#116; &#104;&#101; was running &#097; scam.</p><p> Some of the writing on the site is in Russian, &#119;&#104;&#105;&#099;&#104; &#103;&#105;&#118;&#101;&#115; the impression of &#097;&#110; off-shore operation, but selling &#116;&#104;&#105;&#115; kind of personal information is hardly &#110;&#101;&#119;.</p><p> The FBI &#115;&#097;&#121;&#115; &#105;&#116; &#097;&#108;&#119;&#097;&#121;&#115; investigates credit card fraud, &#101;&#115;&#112;&#101;&#099;&#105;&#097;&#108;&#108;&#121; &#119;&#104;&#101;&#110; it&#8217;s internet based. &#104;&#111;&#119;&#101;&#118;&#101;&#114;, officials wouldn&#8217;t comment on &#116;&#104;&#105;&#115; specific site.</p><p> Victims of online credit card fraud can file &#097; complaint on IC3, the joint FBI and National White Collar Crime Center Partnership&#8217;s <a

Similarly, &#097;&#110; Post&#8217;s &#111;&#110;&#101; Direct card, &#119;&#104;&#105;&#099;&#104; &#105;&#115; &#097;&#108;&#115;&#111; issued by MBNA, offers 0 per cent for 10 months. &#098;&#111;&#116;&#104; Tesco &#097;&#110;&#100; Permanent TSB &#097;&#108;&#115;&#111; &#104;&#097;&#118;&#101; &#097; zero rate for &#115;&#105;&#120; months.</p><p><strong>CONSIDER &#097; PRE-PAID OPTION</strong>&#160;</p><p>The advantage of &#097; pre-paid credit card &#105;&#115; &#116;&#104;&#097;&#116; you can&#8217;t spend &#119;&#104;&#097;&#116; you don&#8217;t &#104;&#097;&#118;&#101;. The disadvantage &#105;&#115; &#116;&#104;&#097;&#116; &#105;&#110; times of need, &#105;&#116; won&#8217;t give you money &#116;&#104;&#097;&#116; isn&#8217;t already &#105;&#110; &#121;&#111;&#117;&#114; account.</p><p>There &#105;&#115; &#097; variety of options on the market, including the O2 money card. Using &#116;&#104;&#105;&#115; &#110;&#101;&#119; card &#119;&#105;&#108;&#108; mean you avoid the &#8364;6 administration fee charged by the airline, &#097;&#110;&#100; while &#105;&#116; attracts &#097; &#8364;10 fee &#116;&#111; obtain, you &#119;&#105;&#108;&#108; receive &#097; &#8364;10 flight voucher &#116;&#111; be redeemed &#097;&#103;&#097;&#105;&#110;&#115;&#116; &#121;&#111;&#117;&#114; &#110;&#101;&#120;&#116; flight. Money can be withdrawn from the card or &#117;&#115;&#101;&#100; &#119;&#104;&#101;&#114;&#101;&#118;&#101;&#114; MasterCard &#105;&#115; accepted, but like O2, there &#105;&#115; &#097; charge each time you put money on the card, of &#8364;3. Moreover, &#097; negative balance charge of &#8364;15 &#097;&#108;&#115;&#111; applies &#115;&#104;&#111;&#117;&#108;&#100; you go overdrawn.</p><p><strong>TO PROTECT OR NOT TO PROTECT?</strong>&#160;</p><p>If you&#8217;re taking out &#097; credit card for the &#102;&#105;&#114;&#115;&#116; time, or are applying for &#097; &#110;&#101;&#119; card, you might be offered payment protection insurance (PPI) by the provider. But &#115;&#104;&#111;&#117;&#108;&#100; you accept &#105;&#116;?</p><p>PPI &#105;&#115; &#097;&#110; insurance policy &#116;&#104;&#097;&#116; &#105;&#115; aimed at covering repayments &#115;&#104;&#111;&#117;&#108;&#100; you be unable &#116;&#111; meet &#116;&#104;&#101;&#109;. But &#109;&#097;&#110;&#121; policies are riddled with exclusions, such as unemployment, &#119;&#104;&#105;&#099;&#104; means &#116;&#104;&#097;&#116; &#116;&#104;&#101;&#121; may be of little value &#116;&#111; you. &#116;&#104;&#101;&#121; can &#097;&#108;&#115;&#111; be expensive. There are &#097;&#108;&#115;&#111; &#097; number of private operators &#119;&#104;&#111; promise &#116;&#111; get &#121;&#111;&#117;&#114; money back for &#097; fee.</p><p><strong>PICK &#097; CARD THAT SUITS YOUR NEEDS</strong>&#160;</p><p>If you tend &#116;&#111; rack &#117;&#112; sizeable balances on &#121;&#111;&#117;&#114; credit card, then you &#119;&#105;&#108;&#108; need &#116;&#111; shop &#097;&#114;&#111;&#117;&#110;&#100; for the lowest &#105;&#110;&#116;&#101;&#114;&#101;&#115;&#116; rate. Apart from the introductory offers mentioned elsewhere, the lowest current rate &#097;&#118;&#097;&#105;&#108;&#097;&#098;&#108;&#101; for purchases &#105;&#115; 13.6 per cent from AIB&#8217;s Click card &#8211; &#119;&#104;&#105;&#099;&#104; compares &#119;&#101;&#108;&#108; with 22.7 per cent for &#097; MasterCard from the &#115;&#097;&#109;&#101; bank.</p><p>If, &#104;&#111;&#119;&#101;&#118;&#101;&#114;, you always pay &#111;&#102;&#102; &#121;&#111;&#117;&#114; &#098;&#105;&#108;&#108; each month, then &#104;&#111;&#119; much &#105;&#110;&#116;&#101;&#114;&#101;&#115;&#116; &#105;&#115; &#098;&#101;&#105;&#110;&#103; charged isn&#8217;t &#114;&#101;&#097;&#108;&#108;&#121; important. Instead, you need &#116;&#111; &#109;&#097;&#107;&#101; sure &#116;&#104;&#097;&#116; you&#8217;re not &#098;&#101;&#105;&#110;&#103; charged any extra charges.</p><p>With Bank of Ireland&#8217;s Platinum Advantage card, for example, &#097;&#110; annual fee of &#8364;76.18 applies, while National Irish Bank&#8217;s Platinum MasterCard &#105;&#115; &#111;&#110;&#108;&#121; &#097;&#118;&#097;&#105;&#108;&#097;&#098;&#108;&#101; &#116;&#111; customers with &#097; Prestige Current Account &#8211; &#097;&#110;&#100; &#116;&#104;&#105;&#115; account attracts &#097; &#8364;31 quarterly fee.</p><p>If you like &#116;&#111; withdraw funds from &#121;&#111;&#117;&#114; credit card &#119;&#104;&#101;&#110; short on cash, then you might find &#097; different card best suits &#121;&#111;&#117;&#114; &#110;&#101;&#101;&#100;&#115;. National Irish Bank&#8217;s MasterCard Platinum, for example, charges &#106;&#117;&#115;&#116; 9.75 per cent for cash withdrawals, compared with Bank of Ireland&#8217;s Clear card &#119;&#104;&#105;&#099;&#104; &#104;&#097;&#115; &#097; 21.36 per cent rate.</p><p>Your annual income may &#097;&#108;&#115;&#111; preclude you from applying for particular cards. isPermaLink="false">http://www.webcreditcardsite.com/consolidating-credit-card-debt/credit-cards-a-problem-in-pm-rudds-office/</guid> <description><![CDATA[ [...]]]></description> <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>AAP<p>Five government officials, including &#116;&#119;&#111; in &#102;&#111;&#114;&#109;&#101;&#114; Labor prime minister Kevin Rudd&#8217;s department, have &#098;&#101;&#101;&#110; axed &#111;&#118;&#101;&#114; credit card rule breaches in the &#112;&#097;&#115;&#116; &#116;&#104;&#114;&#101;&#101; years, &#110;&#101;&#119; figures &#115;&#104;&#111;&#119;.<p>Liberal MP Jamie Briggs uncovered the rorts &#116;&#104;&#114;&#111;&#117;&#103;&#104; &#097; parliamentary &#113;&#117;&#101;&#115;&#116;&#105;&#111;&#110; on notice to Prime Minister Julia Gillard &#097;&#110;&#100; other ministers.<p>In the &#102;&#105;&#114;&#115;&#116; instance in 2009, &#097; prime minister&#8217;s department official breached the department&#8217;s credit card guidelines 11 times, &#119;&#097;&#115; suspended &#097;&#110;&#100; repaid $2494.<p>The &#115;&#101;&#099;&#111;&#110;&#100; official breached the rules &#116;&#119;&#105;&#099;&#101; &#097;&#110;&#100; paid &#098;&#097;&#099;&#107; $295.<p>Both investigations found the public service code of conduct had &#098;&#101;&#101;&#110; breached &#097;&#110;&#100; sanctions were recommended.<p>&quot;Both employees were terminated &#097;&#116; &#116;&#104;&#101;&#105;&#114; request before sanctions could &#098;&#101; imposed,&quot; the prime minister &#115;&#097;&#105;&#100; in &#104;&#101;&#114; answer.<p>The Defence Department &#115;&#097;&#105;&#100; &#116;&#104;&#114;&#101;&#101; of its employees had resigned before action could &#098;&#101; &#116;&#097;&#107;&#101;&#110; &#097;&#103;&#097;&#105;&#110;&#115;&#116; them.<p>It reported that in 2008/09 the credit card guidelines were breached 51 times, to &#097; total &#118;&#097;&#108;&#117;&#101; of $89,718.49.<p>One person breached the rules 35 times.<p>In 2009/10 the defence department identified 83 breaches to the tune of $32,314.85, &#097;&#110;&#100; the figure for 2010/11 &#119;&#097;&#115; $37,183.10 &#102;&#114;&#111;&#109; 91 breaches.<p>The department &#115;&#097;&#105;&#100; &#105;&#116; had improved its fraud recovery &#097;&#110;&#100; audit controls in February 2011, &#119;&#105;&#116;&#104; credit card &#117;&#115;&#101; now being detected &#102;&#097;&#115;&#116;&#101;&#114; &#097;&#110;&#100; case numbers on the decline.<p>The resources department identified $12,715.64 &#111;&#118;&#101;&#114; 29 breaches of credit card rules &#102;&#114;&#111;&#109; mid-2008 to mid-2011.<p>Resources Minister Martin Ferguson &#115;&#097;&#105;&#100; that in &#097;&#108;&#108; cases the cardholders were warned &#097;&#110;&#100; invoices issued for recovery of the funds.<p>In one instance, involving &#111;&#118;&#101;&#114; $10,500 in 2009/10, the resource department employee &#119;&#097;&#115; prosecuted &#097;&#110;&#100; sacked.<p>Mr Briggs &#115;&#097;&#105;&#100; on Monday the figures &#097;&#108;&#115;&#111; showed that since Labor &#116;&#111;&#111;&#107; office in 2007, departmental credit card expenditure had more than doubled.<p>&quot;Now we &#097;&#114;&#101; finding &#111;&#117;&#116; that there has &#098;&#101;&#101;&#110; &#097; number of lapses in the legitimate &#117;&#115;&#101; of taxpayer-funded credit cards &#117;&#110;&#100;&#101;&#114; the Rudd/Gillard government,&quot; Mr Briggs &#115;&#097;&#105;&#100;.<p>&quot;The fact that staff &#097;&#114;&#101; being terminated &#102;&#114;&#111;&#109; the prime minister&#8217;s &#111;&#119;&#110; department &#111;&#118;&#101;&#114; the &#117;&#115;&#101; of credit cards &#105;&#115; concerning.&quot;<p>He &#115;&#097;&#105;&#100; &#097; coalition government would undertake &#097; &#116;&#104;&#111;&#114;&#111;&#117;&#103;&#104; investigation of the &#117;&#115;&#101; of departmental credit cards.<p>The agriculture department reported 64 breaches &#111;&#118;&#101;&#114; the three-year period &#102;&#114;&#111;&#109; 2008, &#119;&#105;&#116;&#104; 14 officials counselled for breaches totalling $7309.<p>The communications department reported 19 breaches &#111;&#118;&#101;&#114; the period 2008-2011, &#119;&#105;&#116;&#104; cardholders being counselled on each occasion &#097;&#110;&#100; the money repaid.<p>In the attorney-general&#8217;s department there have &#098;&#101;&#101;&#110; 30 breaches of credit guidelines &#102;&#114;&#111;&#109; 2008-2011.<p>Officials were counselled on the guidelines &#097;&#110;&#100; money &#119;&#097;&#115; repaid &#119;&#104;&#101;&#114;&#101; necessary.</p><p><a
